What colors can dogs see?

Dogs see colors differently from humans. While humans have three types of color receptors (cones) in their eyes, dogs have only two, which means they see a more limited range of colors. Specifically, dogs perceive colors within the blue and yellow spectrum, but they have difficulty seeing reds and greens.

What Dogs Can See:

Blues and Yellows: Dogs can see shades of blue and yellow well, so objects of those colors appear vibrant to them.

What Dogs Can't See:

Reds and Greens: Dogs perceive reds and greens as shades of gray or brownish, and they don’t distinguish between them in the way humans do.

In summary, dogs have dichromatic vision (two colors), which is similar to colorblindness in humans, specifically red-green color blindness. However, their sense of smell, hearing, and motion detection is far more advanced than ours, making them excellent companions even with their uni

que vision.
