Taking care in the ice and snow

Taking care in the ice and snow

Snow makes everything seem like an exciting winter wonderland for your dog, and if they love to explore and play, roaming off into the snow-covered fields will be their favourite pastime!

However, there are some things to consider if your dog enjoys playing in the snow and ice.

Keep your dog on a lead around frozen bodies of water

If you live near a pond or a lake, keep your dog on a lead, particularly if it’s where they love to swim in the warmer months and could be tempted to walk on the ice.

If your dog falls through into the frozen water, you should never be tempted to go in after them, even though your instinct may suggest otherwise. Seek help from those around you and professionals, stay calm and encourage your dog to stay still and calm.

When your dog is out of the water, keep them warm and seek veterinary care.
